Plans have been announced for a very special photo to be taken on the
morning of May 17th at the Tybee Lighthouse that will be BIG. The public is
invited to assemble in the field behind the lighthouse where Kathleen
Collins will "choreograph" the group into a formation. Then photographer,
Theresa McGraw will be flown over the scene to photograph the formation
which will spell out "Thank You." The Photo will show our lighthouse,
wrapped in a yellow ribbon, American Flag fluttering from the gallery and
the assembled crowd spelling out a message to our troops for their efforts
in Iraq. What a grand tribute to our soldiers! If you would like to take
part in the event, call 786-5801 for more information.
Kathleen Collins is director of Neo Fusion dance ensemble and offers
dance classes which are sponsored by the Arts Association and Theresa McGraw
exhibits her photographs at the Gallery by the Sea.
Tybee Island's Thanks to the Troops
The US flag flew from the Lighthouse Gallery on the first anniversary of
September 11th and the 4th of July to remind us all of our tragedies and our
triumphs. Now the yellow ribbon flies as a symbolic gesture of pride and
prayer for our armed services serving our nation in the Middle East. No
words can express the collective appreciation of our community nor our
country to these brave men and women. Hopefully, their friends and their
families will see and understand our small statement of support and let
their service personnel know that they are in our hearts and minds everyday
they are in harmıs way.
There is a way our community can express its heartfelt appreciation to
the armed forces and their families, a way all citizens of Tybee can support
and take part in. On Saturday, May 17, Armed Forces Day, those who feel a
sense of gratitude can join hands with their friends, family and neighbors
at the Tybee Island Lighthouse in order to spell out on a human scale our
suupport for our military service personnel. Tybee citizens will form a huge
THANK YOU in the open field at the light station. Savannah Aviation has
donated a plane and pilot, thanks to Lynnette Manning. Kathleen Collins will
help position the supporters in the correct positions and photographer
Teresa McGraw will capture the community expression on film to be sent to
all national media and military websites.
If you want to join in this gigantic gesture, please call Cullen Chambers
at 786-5801.
