GEORGIA BEACH PRESERVATION AND MAINTENANCE ACT

This bill will require the Corps of Engineers to place beach quality sand on our beach each year as a part of the annual maintenance dredging of the Savannah harbor.    Currently, the Corps carries the sand out to sea and dumps it there because it is cheaper to do so.  That is if you do not look at the $10 – 12 million that it costs to renourish our beaches every seven years and that North Beach is not included in the renourishment effort.

Representative Burke Day introduced the bill into the Georgia General Assembly and it passed on February 13^th.  

Here’s my request.  Call your Senator - Eric Johnson and ask him to support the Georgia Beach Preservation and Maintenance Act. You can reach him at (404) 656-5109 or (912) 354-4626 or ejohnson@legis.state.ga.us.   If this bill becomes law, we will receive renourishment of North Beach each year at no cost to the State of Georgia, Tybee Island or SBRC (you.)  Also, we will not have to go through the very complicated permitting process that I have described above.
