The
Commanders
Corner
By George Walker
American Legion Post 154
Commander Tybee Island, GA
I had the
special privilege last month of giving the Policeman of the Year award, on behave
of Post 154, to Officer Javier A. Valdes of the Tybee Island Police Department.
He was selected by his fellow officers as their best for the year.
Mother's
Day is here and we plan to have our annual steak dinner the help take Mom out
of the kitchen. We look forward to getting Mom out of the kitchen and having a
lot of fun. Please come by or call the Post (786-5356) after 5pm to make reservations.
Memorial Day will be May 25th and Post 154 is proud to be the host Post this
year to honor our veteran's at Bonaventure Cemetery.
Services begin at 10:00am
beginning with a changing of the colors, presentation of last years colors to
the host Post from last year and the raising of the colors of the United States
of America.
We will then have a salute to the armed forces of the United
States and a guest speaker followed by laying a wreath to honor all of our fallen
veterans.
There will be a reception at Post 184 in Thunderbolt immediately
after. If you have never participated this is something that you will remember
for a long time.
Bingo is on Friday's at 8:00pm. Cards go on sale at 7:15pm.
Horseshoes are on Saturday evenings at 7:00pm. Both events are open to the public
and everyone is invited to participate.
We continue to look for new members.
If you're interested in the Legion, Ladies Auxiliary or Sons of the Legion call
the Post (786-5356) for information.
The Legion and Auxiliary meet on the
second Monday of the month, with social hour (and food) starting at 6:00pm and
the meeting at 7:00pm. The Sons of the Legion meet on the third Monday at 7:00pm.
As always, Linda or Patti will have the canteen open at 5:00pm every day.
For God and Country
