2004 Tybee Island Polar Bear Plunge Photos The
2004 Tybee Island Polar Bear Plunge was a huge success. Unofficial estimates have
the crowd in attendance at 500 brave souls with over 150 swimmers. A few best
of awards were unofficially awarded this year. The most seasoned citizen rang
in at 76 years old. When asked his thoughts, Henry replied; "Let's swim naked".
8-) [Maybe next year]. The best dressed swimmer was a no brainer donning a blowup
tutu. We had one family three generation swim with the Commander of American Legion
Post #154 swimming with his son and grandson. You go Gene!...... The most festive
award along with others were awarded in unofficial beach ceremonies. We had our
first Tybee Island City Councilman, Jason, this year. Hope the others will follow.
We spotted them fully clothed on the beach. This years event began exactly at
12 noon with the assistance of the Shell Blower and the Atomic Clock. No TybeeTime
here. The swimmers entered the water within a nanosecond of high noon. We look
forward to a prosperous new year and hope to see all of our swimmers back next
year. Click here to
